What Every Pilot Should Know with RJ Birr

RJ Birr

You might know how to handle an engine failure, but do you know what happens when you need to file an insurance claim?

Columbia Aviation Association welcomes back Ryan "RJ" Birr, President of Northwest Insurance Group, for an evening exploring one of aviation's most important, and frequently misunderstood, subjects: aviation insurance.

RJ is no ordinary insurance professional. He's an accomplished aviator, an FAA Gold Seal Instrument Flight Instructor, a Certified Aviation Insurance Professional, and the proud owner of a Mooney 252. His combination of cockpit experience and aviation insurance expertise gives him a valuable perspective on the risks pilots face both in the air and on the ground.

Aviation insurance isn't always straightforward. From understanding what underwriters look for when evaluating pilots to navigating policy exclusions, aircraft valuations, and the claims process, there's plenty that even experienced aircraft owners may not fully appreciate.

RJ has written extensively about aviation risk management, including how insurance companies evaluate pilot qualifications, common coverage mistakes, and the unexpected consequences of seemingly minor decisions.

Those who have attended RJ's previous presentations know that he has a knack for making even insurance entertaining. Expect practical insights, aviation stories, plenty of humor, and opportunities to ask questions.

Whether you're a student pilot considering your first aircraft purchase, an experienced owner reviewing your coverage, or simply curious about the business side of aviation, this is an evening you won't want to miss. And if the weather cooperates, RJ might even fly in aboard his Mooney!

Join us for dinner, aviation camaraderie, and an informative evening with one of the Northwest's aviation insurance specialists.
