Sunriver Floatplane Accident with John Noordwijk
About this event
Sunriver Floatplane Accident: A First-Hand Account with John Noordwijk
We are honored to welcome John Noordwijk, CAA member and former club president (2010), for an in-person presentation on a pivotal and deeply personal aviation event.
John retired from a global career leading manufacturing plants around the world. He has sailed extensively and has been flying for 25 years. Aircraft ownership has included a Cirrus SR20, Maule M7, and an RV-14 which he built himself. He holds CFII and MEI ratings. His son Alko is a UPS 747 pilot based in Anchorage.
On July 20, 2019, John was with Kevin Padrick, fellow CAA member and former club president (2015), in the floatplane accident at Sunriver in which Kevin tragically lost his life.
His presentation will cover:
• The preflight and mission profile
• What happened during the flight itself
• Key findings from the NTSB accident investigation
• Reflections on decision making and lessons learned
This will be one of the most meaningful and impactful safety-focused programs we have hosted.
