Based in Hillsboro.
N9221P is a PA24-260 built in
1967. I became the third owner in 1976. The first owner lives
in Seattle and called me two years ago hoping to buy it back.
The second owner was a company called Sunset Corp. in Tacoma.
I have no idea what they do. They had a professional pilot who
flew it for them. He landed at Hillsboro one day and was asked
when he bought fuel at the old Hillsboro Aviation if it was
for sale. He said it should be because they don't fly it very
much. It was brokered by them to a doctor named Burt Pattee
who works with me at Tuality. He couldn't afford the whole
price and asked me to go halves with him. We eventually went
thirds and included an orthopedist from St. Vincent. He was
somewhat dangerous for this airplane and we bought him out
again. The full cost to Burt and I was $28,500. in 1976.
In the late 1980s Burt divorced the wife who liked to fly and
remarried a much nicer lady, but she didn't like to fly. I
bought Burt's interest with the run-out engine and bought a
re-manned one and connected with Tom Stevenson here at the club
and we have been a successful partnership ever since. We had
Lloyd Ericcson do us a partnership agreement in 1976 that has stood the test of these events. 21 Poppa has had some new
things added over the years and has been a dependable and
economical flying machine that has made both of us a lot of
friends in the club and outside.
