1964 Cessna 182G
Ron's been flying
this bird since 2000 and keeps it in tip top shape. He's a
regular fly-in member at CAA so check out his parking spot on
the CAA ramp at the next Thursday meeting.
C-182
Hailed
as the best all-around piston aircraft in General Aviation, the
Cessna Skylane has power, versatility and performance to spare.
It’s the ideal sport/utility vehicle.
The Skylane
is 141 knot traveling machine soaring along with a range
of 550 nautical miles.
Powered by a 230 HP Contenental
O-470
it is a strong 1000 FPM+ climber and it's 2,800 pounds gross
weight makes it the pick-up truck of the sky with a useful load of 1190 pounds.
You can fill the 65 gallon, tanks and still carry 100 pounds of baggage.
Ron's comments:
81R was delivered to TTD brand new
in 1964. It has spent it's entire life in the Pacific NW
except for 5 years in Alaska and 2 years in Minneapolis. For
a period of time it was in the Blue Skies flying club at
TTD. Also, if you look in the CACC 50 year flight
log book, 81R is on page 32, was flown in flight profile
and owned by club member Sam Frisella at that time.
I purchased the airplane in 1998
in Minneapolis and flew it back to Pearson the week before
Thanksgiving. The previous owner installed a Victor
engine (now at TBO and has been trouble free and still
flying strong), Three blade prop, all the Knots 2U speed mods
and wheel pants, a new T panel with Stec 50 autopilot,
Stormscope, GEM engine monitor and new headliner, door panels
and carpet.
After purchasing it, I had new
leather seats installed, powder coated the yokes, and just
keep improving the airplane mechanically.
I fly at 65% power, 130 knots
true on 10 gph. I fly the airplane IFR. Next
on the upgrade horizon is a IFR certified GPS.
A new engine will follow that improvement. Someday,
if I keep the airplane long enough, I will get to the exterior
paint.
