After 30 hours of initial flight
training as a student pilot in 1984, Jake was hooked and went out to buy an
airplane, looking for a C-150. He found a Cardinal for sale at
Pearson Airpark, but
having never heard of a C-177, flight instructor Dave Hays flew in to
help out, evaluated it as a 10/10 and said
"buy it". A down-payment check was written as the demo flight touched
down.
After completing VFR and IFR tickets
Jake has since logged 2600 hours in this Cardinal flying all over the
western USA, to Canada,
Mexico, BBP
Oshkosh, Alabama, big metro airports and mountain grass
strips in Idaho. N3460T lands at Sister's Eagle Air a couple times a month
and flies regularly with the Aurora Fliers and Drivers Saturday
breakfast group on cross countries to Salem, Albany and once they ventured far east to Wasco, Oregon.
An upgrade from the Lycoming 0-320 to the
0-360 in 1997 greatly improved the performance and eliminated the
white knuckles climb-outs. Speed
mods and new radios accompanied the firewall forward project, further
enriching the economy.
Hangared at Aurora, Oregon UAO for 16 years, N3460T moved to Lenhardt's
Air Haven
7S9 in 2001.
Wide cabin, lots of room, superb visibility, no struts, very
comfortable on long flights. Giant doors open 90 degrees to provide
easy ingress, egress. Lots of back seat room. Serves as a
camper with the rear seats removed. Looks great on the ramp.
