Diego 2002 Flyout report I am happy to report a very successful and safe flyout was completed on May 19. Seven families including 9 children ventured to Carlsbad California, Palomar Airport for a visit to the So Cal venues of Legoland, San Diego Zoo, Balboa Park and Seaworld. Arriving at various times on Thursday 5/16, we met our adventurous friends at the airport shuttling to our home base which was the Carlsbad Inn, just off the beach at Carlsbad. There, the pilots could relax while the children played on the grounds and in the pool. Following a cocktail party in the reception area at the hotel, Dinner on Thursday night was at Fidel's on-site at the Carlsbad Inn. We probably only drank two Margaritas that night. [interested in beach-front property?] On Friday, the group divided into two contingents, the younger families opting for Legoland, and the "big Kids" did Seaworld. After a wonderful cocktail party in the Board room, we adjourned to Tiberius Antro where a spectacular five course dinner was enjoyed with great Vino and Tiramisu (my favorite). Saturday, the scene was Balboa Park with the World famous San Diego Zoo and the Air-Space Museum. That night, the Mom's got a break with baby sitters watching the children allowing an all-adult outdoor Marguerita-fest at a fabulous Del Mar location overlooking the oceancalled Epazotes. Despite some challenging weather on the way home, all returned safe. Some even enjoyed 80 Kt tailwinds up high. All in all a very successful trip despite leaving some neurons in SoCal. Special thanks to Jay Richards and all the San Diego flyers that participated. Respectfully submitted Casey Rucker |
