SOUTH
OF THE BORDER, DOWN MEXICO WAY. . .
John, I don't know if this is something you care to share with the CPA, but I have just returned from El Fuerte Mex. I was on a trip to Copper Canyon with the Baja Bush Pilots. Thirteen aircraft arrived Sun July 1 on Mon. July 2 six to eight armed men overpowered, bound and gagged the two guards we had hired for the planes. The only plane stolen was my T210N, which had a prop chain, a window lock and a throttle lock. The drugies have excellent taste. Tom Combs, 39530 Tom, Sorry to hear about the loss of your aircraft. Getting pretty bad down there when you can't even go to a well-known place in a group without there being serious problems. What with this and the rising costs and hassles, I guess many of us will have to rethink about flying down to Mexico. My family always enjoyed it, and the boys have great memories of fishing on the Sea of Cortez. There was one advantage of staying at Loreto on the Baja Peninsula besides that it was a Port of Entry. The aircraft parking area was very close to the barracks of a Mexican Army unit. I have never heard of any planes being messed with there, but maybe now that has changed also. Sounds like if those of us in the US are going to fly off to visit our neighbors, we should learn to speak Canadian and head north. John Frank mailto:john.frank@cessna.org
